Snorkelling and whale watching on Maui

Snorkelling and whale watching on Maui

When you fly to Maui, you will see nothing but sea when you look out of the airplane window. For 5,5 hours up in the sky, you can only see water which made me realise that the Pacific Ocean is so big. It looked so pretty from up above and I started wondering what would live beneath, in the deep – deep – waters. I was therefore very happy that we booked two tours with Sea Maui to experience the magical underwater world ourselves. Sea Maui is one of the smaller catamarans of Maui which assures a more personal and relaxed atmosphere. As soon as we dropped our suitcases at our lovely hotel in Lahaina, we drove to Whalers Village in Kaanapali Beach as the catamaran leaves from there. The crew, including the dog, is very fun and energetic, knows a lot about sea life, and makes sure that you constantly have a cocktail in your hand.

Sunset Whale Watching!

As soon as we got on the beautiful boat, we were warmly welcomed with a cold Maui beer and live music to start the Sunset Whale Watching Tour. It didn’t take long before we saw whales splashing around us. These animals are without a doubt, one of the most amazing marine wildlife creatures we have ever seen. The captain told us that we were lucky that we visited Maui in the whale season, as these North Pacific Humpback Whales are back in the tropical Hawaiian waters in the winter. They are there this time of year to breed, to birth, and to raise their young calves in safety. So we were there to witness how the mother and the new born babies were preparing for their way back to the cold Alaskan waters for feeding. That alone was a magical experience. On top of that we enjoyed our first sunset on Maui with delicious cocktails and bites, including amazing Pork sliders and Brussels sprouts. We couldn’t have wished for a better start of our honeymoon on this tropical island!

The best way to see Maui, is Sea Maui!

Sea Maui offers a couple of tours like the sunset, whale watching as well as snorkelling tour. Because really, the only way to experience Maui, is to discover the beautiful underwater world. So a few days after the sunset sailing we got on the boat again, but this time in the early morning. We went snorkelling, close to Lanai, a smaller island, which is a 1,5 hours boat ride. Along the way we saw many whales again and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. The water was so clear, so blue and so pretty! The coral is absolutely stunning and we saw many beautiful tropical fish. When we got back on the boat, the music was playing and a delicious mimosa was handed to us. We leisurely cruised back to Ka’anapali Beach while we enjoyed the lunch prepared by Chef Joey, some more beers and cocktails and the whales! We even got to listen to them with a device they put under water. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I can’t wait to come back again!
